GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new law that replaces the Data Protection Act 1998 (DPA) and comes into force on 25th May 2018.

The GDPR determines how your personal data is processed and kept safe, and the legal rights you have in relation to your own data.  It is a positive step towards you having more control over how your data is used and how you are contacted.  The new Regulation supports your right to have your privacy respected and your data protected. It is designed to give you confidence that the personal information we hold about you is accurate, up to date and well managed and gives you easier access to that information.

Please be assured that we have always maintained our legal duty of confidentiality to you at all times and we will only ever use or pass on information about you if others involved in your direct care have a genuine need for it.   We will not disclose any of your information to third parties without your permission unless there are exceptional circumstances, such as when the health and safety of others is at risk or where the law requires information to be passed on.

The GDPR requires us to process data 'fairly' and in a 'transparent' manner and we must provide information to you about how we process your information.

Please see below a link to our 'Data Protection Privacy Notice for patients', which will give you more information about this.  Copies of this are also available on reception (including large print).
